A Strong Comeback at Q-School

“I almost needed [that time away],” Staiano stated. “I put a lot of hard work in, and it definitely gave me more hunger going into Q-School this year.” His final rounds at the University of New Mexico’s Championship Course showcased his skills, leaving him well-positioned as he advanced to the second stage of Q-School.
Training and Preparation Ahead
As Staiano sets his sights on the next leg of his journey, he has chosen the Valdosta, Georgia qualifier as his preferred spot for the second stage, scheduled for early December. Understanding the importance of preparation, Staiano plans to return to South Florida, honing his skills on sea-level courses with Bermuda grass—the conditions he’ll encounter in Valdosta. Although he has no tournaments scheduled until then, he may consider entering a pre-qualifying event to stay sharp.
One of the critical factors in Staiano’s recent success has been a notable change in his putting. After switching to a TaylorMade Spider mallet putter—a move inspired by his friend’s recommendation—he experienced a remarkable uptick in performance on the greens. “I’ve really been putting great for the last four or five months, which it’s usually my weakness,” he said, illustrating how small adjustments can yield significant results.
